This is a late 19th to early 20th century Bagnoub. A Bagnoub was a prestige object, a handmade piece with which a young woman presented her embroidery and weaving skills.
In the North of Africa, it was tradition for women of a marital age to work on a Bagnoub. A woven and embroidered wrap or shawl. A potential marriage partner would assess the competence of the woman as a wife by the quality of her embroidery work. The embroidery pieces usually carry the clan colors.
This specific example of a Bagnoub is very large at 430 by 130 cm.
It is in good condition, although there is some small damage.
