This original piece is a Mongolian/ Indian, 18-19th century, thrusting dagger known as a Katar. It has a double-edged triple scissor blade. The outer blade is made of two pieces that slide over a third blade. It is operated by a typical two-bar hilt grip. The upper bar pulls down, which spreads apart the two halves of the main blade.
The surface shows remains of koftgari gilding. This example is very nice condition, with a lovely patina on the steel.
